How to install Open Office on Linux and Chromebook

These steps are for Linux Beta (chromebook), Debian or Ubuntu. 

Is it necessary java? If your are using OpenOffice for common tasks it's not necessary. According to openoffice site java environment is "mainly required for the HSQLDB database engine" - OO Base. 

In case you need to install java environment... On terminal copy & paste:

sudo apt-get install default-jre

Steps to install OpenOffice:

1. Download openoffice from official site. For a modern Chromebook select Linux 64 bits DEB, select language and save in Downloads folder (inside Linux files folder).

Example: Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.11_Linux_x86-64_install-deb_es.tar.gz

2. On terminal, type and press enter:

cd Downloads  

3. Now extract the tar. gz file:

tar  xvf (YOUR FILE NAME. tar.gz) 

Example:

tar xvf Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.11_Linux_x86-64_install-deb_es.tar.gz

 

 

4. Type and enter:

ls  

cd es/DEBS  (Replace es for your language) 

sudo dpkg -i  *.deb

6. Type and enter to start installation:

cd desktop-integration/

sudo dpkg -i *deb

7. That's all... Now check up oo icons on your desktop. 

Notes about codes:

cd - to enter a folder. 

ls - to view a folder content. 

dpkg -i *deb - to unpack and install all. deb files

¿Existe Openoffice para android o chromebook?

¿Se puede utilizar Openoffice en android o en un chromebook? Oficialmente no existe una aplicación de OpenOffice para android o chrome os. 

Sin embargo, hay una en Google play que está basada en el código de openoffice y que es muy parecida, por no decir igual. 

Se llama AndroOpen Office y está basada en la última versión de Openoffice, ésto se puede ver si accedemos a la configuración de la app. 

Tiene el clásico procesador de textos, la opción de crear presentaciones, hojas de cálculo, fórmulas matemáticas, dibujo... Lo mismo q en Openoffice. 

Así es cómo se ve en un chromebook o en una tablet. 

Así es cómo se vería en un móvil android... A la derecha es el aspecto que tiene al pulsar el icono del ratón que trae incorporado. 

En chromebook, además existe la posibilidad de instalar el Openoffice oficial a través de Linux beta, pero es un poquito más complicado que instalar una app desde Google Play.

How to recover missing Google Drive folder on chromebook files app

In the chromebook file application, which is the file manager that Chrome OS comes with, I was trying to move a file from the downloads folder to the Google drive folder ... but I found that mysteriously the drive folder it had disappeared, it was no longer there. It happened on Chrome os 87.

In the end I found a solution! 

Steps:

1. Go to settings: we can do it from the clock or by opening the application.

2. Search for "drive" and select "Disconnect Google Drive account".

We can also access from settings - advanced settings - files - Disconnect Google Drive account

3. Turn on the "Disconnect Google Drive account" button.

4. Now if we check the files application we will see that the drive folder is there, but it is 'read only'. 

5. So what we have to do is to reboot the system. We turn off the computers and turn it on again. 

6. The Google Drive folder will appear with all its functions, and we will be able to move and save files in it. 

Cómo conectarse a wifi o a un hotspot en un chromebook por primera vez

Cuando ponemos en marcha un chromebook por primera vez tenemos que conectarnos a internet, por medio de una red wifi o un hotspot (cómo crear un hotspot - leer) 

De esa manera podremos entrar a nuestra cuenta de google. 

Pasos:

1. Ir al reloj (en parte inferior derecha de la pantalla).

2. Activar wifi. 

3. Tocar/hacer click en la flechita del icono de wifi, para ver las redes disponibles, y seleccionar el nombre de nuestra red wifi o de un punto de acceso portátil (hospot). 

4. Escribir la contraseña y tocar/hacer click en conectar.

Is there an Openoffice app for android or chromebook?

Can Openoffice be used on android or on a chromebook? Officially there is no OpenOffice app for android or chrome os. 

However, there is one on Google play that is based on the openoffice code and that is very similar, if not the same. 

It's called AndroOpen Office and it's based on the latest version of Openoffice, this can be seen if we access the app's settings. 

It has the classic word processor, the option to create presentations, calc sheets, math formulas, drawing... The same as in OpenOffice.

In chromeboks, there is also the possibility of installing the official Openoffice through Linux beta, but it is a little more complicated than installing an app from Google Play.

En chrome cómo guardar archivos en pendrive u otra carpeta al descargarlos

En este artículo hemos utilizado un chromebook (pero vale también para windows o Linux) , que suele venir configurado de fábrica para que todos los archivos que descarguemos de internet en el navegador Chrome se guarden en la carpeta de descargas.

Supongamos que deseamos elegir la carpeta donde guardar el archivo o simplemente deseamos guardarlo en un pendrive. 

Entonces tenemos que activar que el navegador nos pregunte dónde queremos guardar el archivo. 

Pasos:

1. Abrir navegador Chrome, y hacer click/tocar los tres puntitos verticales situados en la esquina superior derecha del navegador. 

2. Seleccionar Configuración. 

3. Seleccionar Configuración avanzada - Descargas. 

4. En "Preguntar dónde se guardará cada archivo antes de descargarlo" - Activar el botón (deslizándolo hacia la derecha). 

La próxima vez que descarguemos un archivo de internet, aparecerá una ventana con forma de rectángulo donde podremos seleccionar la carpeta o pendrive donde guardarlo, e incluso cambiarle el nombre. 

How to create a portable wifi hotspot on android phone

Sharing the data connection of our phone with a tablet or a laptop is very easy. We just have to create a portable Wi-Fi hotspot. 

We go to Settings - (networks) - Portable hotspot

On portable hotspot select - set up portable hotspot. 

There we can change the SSID name (it is our device name when showing on wifi networks) and we will usually find a password that we can leave or change.

In the security section we can choose a strong encryption such as WPA-2. 

We must copy the password on a piece of paper or on a notes app (touch the eye-shaped icon to view) and the ssid too. 

Once set up, go back and enable the portable hotspot button, if it has not been done before. 

Important: To share the mobile data connection we must turn such connection on (be sure internet is working) and have the portable hotspot turned on. 

And we can now access the internet via wifi from another device.

Cómo crear una zona wifi o hotspot en un móvil android

Compartir la conexión de datos de nuestro móvil con una tablet o un portátil es muy fácil. Tan sólo tenemos que crear un punto de acceso wifi portátil, también llamado zona wifi o "hotspot". 

Nos vamos a Ajustes - (Redes) - Punto de acceso portátil (o zona wifi). 

En punto de acceso portátil (o zona wifi) seleccionar - Configurar punto de acceso portátil. 

Ahí podemos cambiar el nombre SSID (es el nombre que tiene nuestro dispositivo cuando aparece en redes wifi) y normalmente encontraremos una contraseña q podemos dejar o cambiarla.

En apartado seguridad elegimos un cifrado fuerte como es WPA-2. 

Debemos copiar en un papel o en una app de notas la contraseña (tocamos el icono con forma de ojo para visualizar) y también el ssid. 

Una vez configurado, retrocedemos y activamos el punto de acceso portátil si no lo hemos hecho antes. 

Importante: Para compartir la conexión de datos tenemos que activar dicha conexión en el móvil (asegurarnos que tenemos internet) y tener el punto de acceso portátil activado. 

Y ya podemos acceder a internet por wifi desde otro dispositivo.

How to install or uninstall spotify on chromebook linux beta

This article is for Linux Debian, which is the one (linux beta) that can be enabled on chrome os, chromebooks system. To install the desktop version of Spotify on a chromebook (or debian) we have to do it through the linux beta terminal (which must has been activated previously). 

HOW TO INSTALL SPOTIFY:

We open the Linux Terminal app and write:

sudo apt-get install spotify-client 

Reply we do want to install by typing: y

Once installed, it is very likely that when you open Spotify, it will close instantly. In linux the app usually crashes. 

The trick to open Spotify  is:

Open terminal and type:

spotify --no-zygote

Then automatically Spotify will open. 

HOW TO UNINSTALL SPOTIFY:

sudo apt-get --purge remove spotify-client

And follow instructions.
